Friday Bitch, 7.0

Category : , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I’m ready for the holidays to be over and they haven’t even started yet. The waste of space exwife is really getting under my skin and I’m trying to not let it bother me. But it bugs me that she doesn’t do anything extracurricular with the boys if it’s of the slightest inconvenience to her but she must have them on holidays so she can show off her brood of seven.

Up until last year, she had them on Thanksgiving and they came to our house the night of Christmas Eve and stayed through Christmas. She basically said last year that since we didn’t have any siblings for the boys and she did - that they should be at her house on Christmas. Husband said, “whatever” and hung up on her. I blew a fuse. I waited until Christmas Eve night to point out that this was the first Christmas Eve of the boys’ lives that he hadn’t read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to them and made him cry. I told him he would regret just going along with that her plan. I made him promise that he’d talk to her before the holidays this year to see if we could have them on Thanksgiving and Christmas and we could just start swapping out years.
He did not do this. So, we’re doing our Thanksgiving next Wednesday and she’s getting them by noon on Christmas so she can tote them to her husband’s family house for dinner.

I’m pissed off that Husband doesn’t want to rock the boat with this gutter slut. He said that he only has 4 more years to deal with her and wants to just deal with her as little as possible. I understand what he’s saying but it still irks me. My holiday spirit is out the door. I actually volunteered to work Thanksgiving so a friend of mine could have the day off. I knew that if I sat at home on that day that I’d just glare at Husband. At least I’ll get paid double-time and a half that day!

I have no idea what I'm doing for Thanksgiving next week. None. My father and his wife have gone from being "parents" to this strained politeness between all of us... and that blame will fall squarely on my shoulders.

Because I finally laid down the law about things I will not discuss with him, since they always lead to arguments. These things are:

-My mother (his ex-wife, whom he hasn't seen in over twenty years and who would be thrilled to pieces if he suddenly fell off the planet)

-My politics (because I've got a very open mind-set, and his mind is very narrow about some things)
-My view on animals rights (because I believe they were here first, therefore we should respect them)

-My earth-friendly lifestyle (he thinks the bigger your eco-footprint, the happier you will be)

-My sex life

-My teenage years (of which he was no part)

-The 'research' he is doing on me. (Because everyone runs an investigation on their offspring instead of talking to them.)

Is it wrong me of think that there are some things parents do not need to know about their children? And vice versa? I don't need to know the exact number of women he fucked while married to my mother, and I highly doubt any man wants to know the exact nature of their daughter's sexual proclivities, no matter how old she might be.

I found out the hard way that he, and my skin-sack of an ex-husband, are cut from the same cloth. My father just disguised it better until it was too late for me to change my mind.

I've started an advent calender, but it's got nothing to do with the birth of a bouncing Baby Jesus- it's a countdown to the day I can go back to the family that was around for all the hard shit and is still standing there to pick me up when I fall.

I have plenty to bitch about this week. I broke a tooth last Friday night. It still is not fixed, and I am high on pain meds, have a zillion antibiotics running through my blood stream, and since the doctor didn't listen to me, the pain meds prescribed make me jumpy as hell. I cannot sleep if I take Loritab. I told her that and that is what she called in to the pharmacy anyway. So my choices are enjoy a raw exposed nerve ending in my mouth, or be more wired than a cocaine addict on a 3 day binge. (the office nurse told me if I don't want the Loritab to just take some Motrin instead. Yeah, that will dull the nerve!)

Don't get me wrong - it would be great to have all this energy and to be able to funnel it into something constructive and useful. But instead I'm scattered, and unable to form a coherent thought for more than a few minutes. Yesterday I started to try and form a post, and stopped about 20 times. The ideas are there in my head, but making them come out of my fingers just wasn't happening. But I figured I had time, because I post on Thursday. I got up this morning and realize that somewhere in this pain filled week I lost and entire damn day!

My three counterparts here have bitches that go far beyond anything I have to bitch about today. In fact, the first bitch that comes to mind is that I'm not in closer proximity to get rid of a waste of skin ex-wife, pass along some top notch pain pills, and rid a certain town in butt-fucked nowhere of a certain male inhabitant who wouldn't know a good father if it landed on his face and started to flop around like a cat with epilepsy.

My biggest bitch in my corner of the universe (other than the fact that my husband's work phone just started ringing on the 3rd vacation day he's taken all year... %^&*%$^!!!) is that I saw myself in a few pictures from Disneyland yesterday and I'm horrified at how fat I've gotten. Maybe the apple doesn't fall as far from the tree as I had originally thought. My mother is the vainest of vain... and I'm certainly not as bad as she is (no way I would remain conscious for a plastic surgeon to rip the fat pads out of my eye sockets, thank you!) but, I guess I'm more vain than I realized.

This morning I'm partially beating myself up and attempting to come up with some sort of diet compromise that doesn't make me feel like I'm punishing myself 24/7. I know I can't stand looking like this and eventually it's going to make me stop having sex with my husband and God knows, that will end up with one of committing murder.

I suck. Or do I?

This week is fair weather friends week. We all have those stories about people we thought were friends but then saw their other side.

But I started thinking... have I ever been that friend? That one who just did the "me me me" of the relationship and never bothered to listen to my other friend?

I'm an introvert by nature. It takes me a long time to get close to a person. I'm quiet and shy and don't like talking to strangers. So I end up with a lot of people that I know, and are acquaintances, but not a lot of true, close friends. My close friends are spread all around the country. I'm not able to hop in the car and head over for a chat. I can only keep up with them by phone, or more likely, Facebook, email, and text. So sometimes it seems like days or longer have gone by and I haven't "talked" to them. I don't know what is going on in their lives. I've been to wrapped up in my own shit to think about them. They are going through tough times and I'm not even noticing.

Oh my God, I am a crappy friend!

No wait. I may not take the time to reach out to those who are are not in my inner circle, but those that are know that I'm right there for them, no matter what. And come what may - I will be.

I guess I am just in a "turn the critical eye on me" mood.

I hope karma pays you back tenfold

Friendships are different for adults. When we're children, our best friend is the kid with the best box of crayons and who shares their Oreo cookies at lunch time.

As an adult, our best friend has seen the very worst of us and loves us anyway. They've held us as we cried, plugged their ears as we screamed, and picked us up from the side of the road after we've been abandoned.

They are the ones who ask "which one" when you tell them an organ is failing and you need a replacement.

You go on vacations together. Cook together. Sometimes you even live together. Their children are like your own children, because you'd give anything for them to be happy. You punish them when they do wrong. You kiss their hurts. (I'm talking about the kids, not the adults)

You have inside jokes, and inside looks, and you finally feel like here is someone who gets you.

You had called her when your husband raped you the last time, and she came and got you and took you home and you laid in bed with her and cried everything out on her shoulder.

She got you blistering drunk when you finally realized your marriage was shit and you needed to get out.

You took the children so she could have a date night with her husband.

You put off two weeks of work to help her move.

You think they'll be there forever and a day, because you know you'll be there for them for forever and a day.

Then you get that phone call in the middle of the night, the one where she is screaming accusations at you that you've fucked her husband and lied to her about it. That you're trying to steal her family from her.

You don't bother reminding her that you've been her shoulder to lean on with him. You've been the one to hold her hand when she freaked out over the amount of porn her husband watches. Who told her she was crazy when she pointed out his profiles on "dating" and "looking for sex" websites. You told her that he loves only her, and that him having cybersex with strangers is just a way of blowing off steam.

She tells you that you're a dictator when you ask a simple question. But she doesn't tell you she's angry until you call a few days later and she is rude and short with you and when you ask what's wrong, she says "you know what's wrong".

When you call her crying that someone who is supposed to love you and be honest with you turns out to be a pathological liar, she says "well, you are just upset that your security blanket isn't working anymore, grow up". When you tell her that you feel like you're going crazy because someone is pushing you towards that cliff, she hangs up on you.

I'd love to say that I bit my thumb at her and told her where to go. But I didn't.

Instead, I've stopped calling. Stopped texting. Stopped emailing. And this withdraw makes me feel better. I hope she realizes one day that I slipped out of her life quietly, easily, without fanfare and didn't leave my shoe laying on the front steps for her to find me with later.

I wonder if her husband knows she thinks he's a cheating bastard, and a liar to boot, but I don't tell him. Let her fester in her paranoia and anger, I've got enough drama in my life, I don't need to borrow from their life.

Friday Bitch IV

My ongoing bitch is getting the kids to do their chores. I am ready to freak out and start screaming. I made lists for each of them but they don’t do the things on the lists unless it’s pointed out to them.

The lists were on neon colored paper and taped to the icebox. How can you miss that? I went a week where I just said, “To hell with it.” and took down the lists because it pissed me off to look at the lists and know they were ignoring them.

Husband had a conversation with the oldest boy a couple of weeks ago and asked the kid why he never told me that that he loved me. His response? Well, I don’t tell (insert stepfather’s name here) that...it’s nothing personal.” Oh. Thanks. I’ve bent over backwards for you for 9 years and the realization that I’m just a prop in your play of life has slapped me in the face. It’s nice to know that I’m on the same playing field as a guy you’ve known for 3 years who doesn’t let you run the air conditioner when it’s hot or the heater when it’s cold because it costs too much to have it work in your loft bedroom.

I redid the chore list, bigger, badder and better than ever. I told Husband that the kids didn’t have to love me but they’ll sure as shit be keeping the house clean.

I'm ready to start cutting the power cords on the televisions.

I'm sick and tired of people expecting me to read their minds. Seriously, I'm over two-fucking-thousand miles away from you, yet I'm to know *exactly* what I said that pissed you off last month that you're just NOW getting around to chewing my ear off over.

I can honestly say that I don't give a shit over something that happened last month that pissed you off. I'm those pesky two-thousand miles away, my day to day life and your day to day life don't even intersect without a phone call and a webcam involved.

Calling me in the middle of the night because you had a nightmare your husband was cheating on you does not warrant a full on freak out on my part. Not even a minor freak out on my part- mainly because he's not my husband and if he is cheating on you, why on earth do you think I'd know about it?

I'm sorry, but I have to get up and work in the morning. Yes, you work too, raising children isn't easy and I applaud you for doing your best to make them happy healthy little humans, but I have to deal with the public all day. The snot-dripping, phlem-coughing, dirty handed public. I'd rather get all the sleep I can because I know I'm going to end up catching the Masque of the Red Death from some jackass who hasn't heard of soap, and I can't deal with your paranoia right now.

I cannot wait to be done with this bullshit so we can go back to pretending that everyone is happy and we're the best of friends.... but I honestly want to rip your eyeballs out and feed them to a rabid squirrel.

Kids and chores also seem to be a weekly bitch around this household as well. When we moved here, we told the kids we would be doing allowances for them. BUT (always a but, huh?) they would have to do their chores every week without being told. To help with that I made a lovely chore chart. Complete down to the days of the week and what they were supposed to do each day. My theory is several little items each day add up, and make the end of the week cleaning that much quicker and easier. I even went so far as to add little sections on each list about "How to clean a bathroom" and "How to vacuum a floor". (Geeze Winnie, anal retentive much?) But yet, every Saturday arrives, and every Saturday they ask for their allowance. Just like clockwork, I ask them if they completed all their chores, each day with out being told.

And every week they walk away with no allowance in their pockets.

Is it that damned hard to understand? If you want your allowance, you have to bring your laundry downstairs on Thursday!

Oh, I've got a chore bitch. I have a chore chart on the fridge carefully outlined Mon. - Thurs. and then a separate list for my son for Friday and then a list for both of them for Saturday mornings.

It would be easier if I could complain that my kids ignore the chart, don't get things done, etc. But, no... the main problem lies in the fact that my daughter is involved with a school play and mock trial which, at least 2 nights a week, keep her at school until 8pm and at least two other days it keeps here in school until 5pm. On one hand I'm proud of her being involved like that and certainly mock trial is nothing to scoff at. But, the fact remains that I end up doing her chores on those days because she barely has the time to finish her homework.

Throw in extra things like spring or fall cleaning or attempting to de-clutter for Christmas and it's all I can do to cover the bare minimum so my house isn't a pig sty.

What's Your Bitch? Edition #2

Category : , , ,

Last week's editions covered our biggest pet peeves. Turns out we share a lot of pet peeves. This week I'm starting off with my bitch of the week which, as it turns out, is something that has really rubbed me the wrong way for years. Only, now I have a venue to bitch and complain about it.

Maybe I'm strange, maybe I have an odd definition of the term "conversation" - I'm willing to give that certainly men and women communicate differently. But, I can't stand it when you are having a conversation with someone (and maybe, it's just MY husband who does this) and they just stop talking. For example...

Husband: What time is it?
Me: It's almost 2 o'clock.
Husband: Okay, I need to make that phone call so I can go take care of that [whatever it was].
Me: Did you want [kid #3] and I to go with you?
Husband: If you want.
Me: Well, I can't help you with [activity at place] if [kid #3] goes...

*crickets*

Me: Also, [kid #3] still has lessons to finish up today...

*crickets*

We weren't on the phone, we were on our back patio. Standing there and he just stopped talking. I'm looking at him, he's not choking, he didn't lapse into some catatonic state, he's not drooling on himself he's just not talking.

Me: Helloooo?

Him: Why did you say that?

Me: Because you aren't talking.

Him: You didn't ask a question. What was I supposed to say?

Me: Uh, well, obviously we are discussing if I should just go on about my business and let you get on with yours or if we should combine our business here.

Him: There's no need to act like that about it.

Me: *blink* *blink*

Is this just me? Am I expecting too much attention here? Now, I've had this happen on the phone with people, usually they have gotten distracted or they are, you know, in traffic or something. I don't know what it says about a man standing there less than 5 feet from his wife who can't continue a conversation.

Why am I in charge of finding things that A) Aren’t mine and B) Aren’t mine?

If I had a nickel for every time my husband has woken me to look for his belt or his cell phone? I’d have a giant sack of nickels.

I spent 15 minutes scouring the house for his belt the other day as he growled around the house. He found it! Where was it? In the pants he’d worn to work the day before. Silly me, I did not look in the most obvious of places because I’d assumed that he would check the last place he had it before enlisting my help in The Hunt.

I cringe every time he asks where something is because he’s going to be grouchy until it’s found. I want to scream, “Why is it my problem to find something that I’ve never even touched?!” But I don’t. I smile and quickly look to find whatever it is that I’m supposed to magically keep track of.

And now I must go to look for a checkbook. To a checking account I do not use.

Why am I the one who is made to straddle the middle lane? To juggle everything and make sure it all stays up in the air? Especially when I'm not the one renegging on things?

That doubletalking something that makes my entire body break out in a cold sweat and my hands clench and my teeth grind. When someone tells me one thing, and then tap dances backwards out of it while I'm left holding the bag.

It doesn't happen often, mainly because I'm really damn picky about who I trust enough to put in that position. But lately, it's happened a lot. And I'm getting more and more aggravated, and they're (the ones who are just tapping away) just aren't getting it.

I don't get angry or up in their face.

I withdraw; it's the way I've always done.

I pull away, until they can't remember the last time we talked in person, the last time they heard me laugh, or the last time I smiled at them.

Pulling away, shutting them out, it's cleaner, neater, and saves on the drama of a huge blow out fight. I don't like big blow outs. It's like blowing up a building to take out a target, when a knife in the dark will do the job just as well.

My bitch for the week has got to be right up there with Charlotte and conversations. It pisses me off to no end when I am trying to talk to someone (and by someone, I mean the husband!) and they just stop listening or responding. I'm not talking to hear the sound of my own voice; I'm not talking because I just want to talk. No, I'm trying to tell him information that he needs to know and will be important later on.
Prime example was last night. We have relatives coming into town tonight, and we will go meet them at their hotel when they get in. I have made Husband aware of this plan on more than one occasion, including the time that they fly in. Last night he was amazed to hear of this plan. How could I not have told it to him before? And don't I know that the way I planned it doesn't work for him, because it means he would have to spend time in the car to get there?????? *gasp - the horror of it all!*

And he wonders why I mutter under my breath so much?
